Mitali
is an accomplished dancer in the Odissi style. She is the senior most and
one of the prime disciples of Smt. Jhelum Paranjape a well known teacher,
performer, and choreographer herself from Mumbai. Mitali has also been
trained and well groomed by the doyen of Odissi Padma Vibhushan
Guru
Kelucharan Mohapatra.
Over two decades ago Mitali embarked on a journey into the fascinating world
of Odissi. And as the years trickled by this traditional dance form of
Orissa became an inherent part of her. This soft lyrical dance which depicts
the best of Orissa and the philosophy of Lord Jagannath – its most popular
deity, has brought rhythm and melody into her life.
For twenty years, Odissi has been her passion. Stretching body and mind
Mitali has relentlessly practiced and perfected steps, gestures and
expressions. Her performances in India were well received and this gave her
the confidence to step into the international arena. Touring extensively the
US, Europe and Australia, Mitali received much appreciation and
encouragement. Impressed by her dedication and artistry prompted
Guru Kelucharan to select her as the youngest dancer for the Festival of India in
Germany in the year 1992.
Mitali hopes that her love for this divine art form will take her to greater
heights where she could attract more respect and awareness to this beautiful
sculptures like dance form- Odissi
